Rock Bottom Brewery

Mike and I met his parents and brother for dinner at the Rock Bottom Brewery in Braintree tonight for dinner. I had a lot of fun, even with Bill's alcohol abuse (knocking a completely full beer onto the floor...Mike was tempted to ask for a straw so none would be wasted!) and Mike and Dave's talk of a certain Saved by the Bell star's sex tape (including the talk of what might be on it...and now that it was explained to me.....EEEW!!!) Jan and I put up with a lot from our boys!!! :-)

By the way, I didn't have this beer...but I liked the name. :-) I tried the Lumpy Dog Light Ale (very good, the name is scary) and the Cranberry Wheat Ale which was not fruity at all, very good.

Other than that, it was a pretty uneventful day....hanging around the house, and relaxing. Presently watching the Sox game (why, I DON'T know...no point)

Our other yard sale find

Not bad for 50¢, huh????

Pampering myself....

Tonight I went to Alyson's house for a Pampered Chef party. A little wine, some chips and dip, and a chunk of change later, I came home. I bought myself a mandoline (the kind you cut things with, not the kind you play), a new ice cream scoop that uses the heat of your hand to get the ice cream out easier, and a baking stone for the stove. I also picked up some cookie cutters for Jenn!

I had a lot of fun, my wallet hurts a little, but it was fun!

My new favorite

Have you tried one??? Sugar, salt....oh yummy....

It's been a while

Yesterday, I came home and SLEPT, or napped really, for most of the day. I kid you not, I did NOTHING!

Today was a bit more productive. I got some stuff done here at home, but it was mostly while being parked on the couch.

Then I watched House. Woohoo!

BTW: If women with big breasts work at Hooters, where do women with one leg work?

Get it???

hahahahahaha

Two and a Half Men ROCKED last night!!!

We found it!!!

For a whopping $15 (I still think we should've talked them down to $10 Mike!!!!) Mike and I bought this new cabinet at a yard sale today. It's the right height and the right color to match the coffee table.

It's actually an old children's wardrobe. The right hand side used to have a dowel for hanging clothes on. Mike removed it so we can try and fit some shelving inside.

The reason for the new cabinet? Glad you asked... Mike wanted the tv to be higher so that the sound wouldn't sound like it was coming from so far above the tv when we are watching it. I wanted the tv higher so that when Mike sits next to me on the couch, I don't have to be constantly moving in the opposite direction of his head to see the screen. :-)

I think we have made a good purchase here. :-)

Saturday Scavenger Hunt

Yesterday, Mike and I went on a hunt for a taller stand for the living room tv. With Mike's new speakers, the sound is coming from above the tv when we watch it. (I don't notice a huge difference, but it's driving the boy crazy!!)

We were out at several different stores for several hours (the whole day, pretty much). We didn't find what we were looking for (short of spending $350 for it).

Normally, this would annoy me. However, we had so much fun, it didn't matter.

After shopping at a number of different stores, we decided to stop for a late lunch/early dinner around 3:30 at the Picadilly Pub. I haven't been there in years, and I forgot how good it is. We both had a caesar salad and lobster bisque in a bread bowl. We split this peanut butter pie/cake thing for dessert.

Then we continued our shopping. Eventually, we ended up at Jordan's Furniture off of Rte. 9. They have a Bose store inside, so of course, we had to stop there. ;-) We sat through a demonstration of the newest home theater system (ONLY $4000). It was corny, and made me laugh, but you have to be impressed by the sound those little speakers put out. At the end, the salesman was there to answer questions. No one was really asking any, so Mike decided to ask one. (I still have no idea what he actually asked). The look on the salesman's face was hilarious. He did a great job of answering it, but you could tell he knew something was up. Mike ended up chatting with him for a bit afterwards. The poor guy probably thought Mike was some secret shopper sent by HQ or something.

So we're off today to some yard sales, to see if we have any better luck there.

bark bark bark

Why is it that everyone else in the building seems to find the barking dog across the hall adorable??????

Perhaps it is because they don't hear it all day long...

Sleeping Beauty....

I came home from work and passed out on the couch for about 1/2 hour...I haven't done much since then either...at least there's only one more day of school this week!!!

Wednesday, September 20, 2006

another Wednesday...

Wednesdays are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo long......yet, somehow....not bad. :-)

Today was good. First day of jazz band...we're going to have to do some recruiting for certain instruments...but that's ok...we'll hunt 'em down...

Harvard Town Band...always fun...Mike even came to rehearsal tonight!!! I had fun. I think he did too. (even if his lips were KILLING him by the end) :-)

Here's to only two more days left for the week...

WOOOHOOO

Look before you leap...

I went to feed my betta (siamese fighting) fish which is in the back bedroom of the apartment today after school. I just fed it yesterday, and it was swimming around, looking happy. I went to feed it today, and it's....

GONE!!!

I kid you not...I don't know where it is. It's not in the bowl, on the table the bowl sits on, or on the floor around the bowl. I looked for about 10 minutes, and can not find it....

I am SERIOUSLY afraid of going into the room...I'm making Mike hunt for it...

Petunia...where are you??????

Harvard Town Band

I think the concert today was great. "Bugler's Holiday" sounded good. Mike sends his congrats...holy triple tonguing!!

Turkish Twist

I think they might be crazy...Mike and I were getting dizzy just watching them....

Canobie!

Saturday (yesterday) Mike, Jenn, Ken, and I went to Canobie Lake Park in Salem, NH. I haven't been there since I was a senior year in high school. It was a real blast from the past.

Ken and I went on the corkscrew rollercoaster, since Jenn and Mike are babies, and watched from the ground. The ride is only 30 seconds for cryin' out loud!!!

Mike won me a Blues Clues stuffed animal playing Skee Ball, but I had to take a pic of the Fraggles at the Wac a Mole. I mean....holy flashback to weird 80's kids shows!!!

Mike tried his hand (or foot, really...) at the soccer game. He came REALLY close to getting me a Nemo fish :-)

Mike shows us what he really thinks about the Ferris Wheel. (Notice he is on the ground, while we are in the air)

The quartet near the log flume ride was really great to listen to.

It's not every day you see one of these! That's a BASS SAX BABY!!! (Greg...eat your heart out!)

What a great day!!

Something I found in Reader's Digest

The following real student answers reaveal why faculty members require long summer vacations.

Q: Where was the Declaration of Independence signed?
A: At the bottom.

Q: In Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, what warning was given to Caesar about March 15?
A: The toothslayer said, "Beware the March of Dimes"

Q: Who are the Aborigines?
A: They're the Native Americans of Australia.

I would laugh, if it wasn't so true...

Purchases for the future...

THIS is why I can't go to the Christmas Tree Shop anymore...I buy lanterns and candles to put away for a wedding reception...while waiting for Mike to save up for a ring to ask me...

The boy's new toys....

Mike's new Bose speakers. He got them for free by the way. It pays to work for Bose....

A closeup of the speaker

Mike checking out the sound...contemplating the purchase of a high-def flat screen. Where's the $$ for that going to come from? Better get working on the gene splicing for that money tree...

Looking forward to a great year!!

I had ELEVEN students stay afterschool with me today!!

Do you have ANY idea how difficult it is to teach a clarinet and sax that have only been playing for 2 days, a clarinetist turned percussionist since yesterday, two 2nd year oboes, a 2nd year clarinetist learning alto clarinet, a 2nd year bass clarinetist, two 2nd year flutes working on high notes, and two 2nd year flutists working on more advanced music all at the same time?????????

Very difficult....if not damn near ludicrous.....

I love Wednesdays...

It doesn't matter how tired I am when I wake up, or how long my day is, or how much I think I can't go on...

Harvard Town Band gets me through the middle of the week.

I go, even though I think I can't make it, because I know that I will regret it if I don't...

I don't think they know what they do for me...

:-)

You are getting sleeeeepy....

It's only Tuesday, and I came home from work today, and collapsed on the couch for 45 minutes. I got home at 5:45, hit the couch by 6, and slept till 6:45. Now if I can only make it through to the end of "Dancing with the Stars"....

Go ahead, try it, you know you want to...

We are behind by a bunch. Tek and Papi come through, then it's all gone in a blink of an eye.

argh...

TGIF

What a great week at school! I am looking forward to starting up the band next week, meeting new faces, and welcoming back the returning ones. I still have a lot of work to do, trying to organize the chaos of the music room closets, but I am slowly but surely getting there. I am tired, but satisfied. :-)

what...who...huh??

After a long day of work, my head started to hurt, so Mike, being the gentleman he is offered me some tylenol. Apparently he didn't look at the bottle, and gave me tylenol pm. I've been in and out of consciousness ever since.....

My Mickey slipped me a mickey!!!

yawn...

I had a great time last night with the HTB, but BOY was I tired this morning!!! I had a great day today, but it felt veeeeery long....

As soon as I can get "Turkey in the Straw" out of my head, maybe I'll take a nap. (annoying band songs!!!!)

I am totally Betty Crocker

or June Cleaver? Nope, June's house is cleaner, and if one of the two of them is going to be drinking a bottle of Original Sin Hard Apple Cider while baking, my bet's on Betty.

I made bread tonight. Real bread. Good bread. Bread with yeast. Bread you knead. Bread that rises.

I rock.

If I love you enough, I might share... Posted by Picasa

Where am I again?

I think that every weekend should be at least three days. I like coming back to work on Tuesdays much more than Mondays. Beginning a week on Tuesday just has a much better feeling than beginning a week on Monday. Waking up on Tuesday mornings is just better.

Way to be lazy

To quote my brother...

I'm just now getting around to posting my pictures from my Tampa Bay trip online. I'm at Shutterfly, feel free to look at all the other photos too! ;-)

finished another book

I finished reading Dan Brown's "Digital Fortress" this morning. (I know... a little behind) I thought it was good, a little slow at the beginning, but it picked up. I also solved the code at the end, all by myself, thank you very much! :-) I won't post the answer, in case someone else is a little behind the times, and would like to solve it on their own. :-)

mmm....chinese

Mike and I went to Yangtze River in Littleton for dinner tonight. Why is it whenever I go to the buffet, I always think I am starving, and once I get up to the buffet, I have about one plate of food, and one plate of fruit?
